Another close shave. After a couple of unlucky guesses and one wild one (Pushy was an extremely unlikely punt) I just about managed to complete today’s puzzle.
The word AFOOT is automatically connected to “the game is afoot”, an idiom uttered by Sherlock Holmes to Watson when his detecting senses are pricked by a case. The phrase was not coined by author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but by Shakespeare’s Henry V and his impassioned plea for the English to take up arms.
Whatever its provenance, for me today’s Classic game was not afoot, but the Sequence most definitely was and I somehow pulled rabbits out of hats to conjure up the four words. A very WOOZY experience.
