The iPhone 18 may finally add a camera feature that Samsung introduced on its flagship phones in 2021
- The iPhone 18 could come with an under-display camera
- It’s a feature that’s been rumored for several years now
- Apparently the change is currently being tested by Apple
All the iPhone launches are done for this year, which means we can turn our attention to 2026 and the iPhone 18 – and the latest rumor to surface suggests this might be the handset when Apple finally decides to add an under-display selfie camera.
According to well-known tipster Smart Pikachu (via Wccftech), Apple is at least testing under-display camera technology for the iPhone 18 handsets, which would mean the display notch could shrink in size or disappear completely.
If you’re thinking this sounds familiar, it might be because this is something that’s been rumored to be coming to the iPhone for years now. Perhaps 2026 is finally the year that it really does happen – although nothing is certain yet of course.
Other sources have also predicted that an under-display Face ID camera is on the table for the iPhone 18 handsets, so that adds more credibility to this latest leak. We’ve also heard whispers that Apple is slowly working towards an all-screen iPhone.
Apple won’t be the first

Other smartphone makers have been experimenting with under-display cameras for years. You might remember the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, which launched in 2021, came with an under-display camera on the main 7.6-inch screen.
However, it’s worth noting that the camera wasn’t particularly good, and Samsung has since ditched the technology, at least for the time being. All the Galaxy handsets launched in 2025 have conventional selfie cameras, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
While Apple hasn’t always been first in industry innovations, it does tend to implement new tech in a way that’s better than most or all of its competitors. Touch ID and Face ID would be two examples of that, and the foldable iPhone might well be another.

Well-placed sources have suggested that Apple may shake up its iPhone launch schedule next year, with the Pro models coming in September and the standard iPhone 18 appearing in March of 2026 . When these phones do appear, keep an eye on the cameras.
