The first GTA VI trailer is here
Less than a day before Rockstar was set to debut GTA VI’s first trailer, a now-suspended account called @Gta6trailerleak posted the trailer on X (formerly Twitter). Though the trailer itself was marred by huge letters in the center of the screen exhorting folks to buy cryptocurrency, the video, which was backed by Tom Petty’s “Love is a Long Road,” certainly looked legitimate. The trailer revealed that the game will take place in Vice City and that it’s scheduled to be released in 2025.
The Verge has reached out to Rockstar for confirmation that this was the actual trailer. Noted gaming news leaker Tom Henderson said it was the real deal.
Though the GTA VI trailer was set to premiere Tuesday, December 5th at 9AM ET, Rockstar has gone ahead and posted the trailer in full on it’s official YouTube channel.
The runtime of the video matches previous information that the trailer would only be 90 seconds long, and The Verge received a tip that a Tom Petty song would be prominently featured in the trailer hours ago. The trailer lines up with other little details that have slowly come out about the game over the last two years, including the setting being Vice City and that the game would star the series’ first female protagonist with Bonnie and Clyde-inspired story elements.
GTA VI’s reveal has been rife with leaked information. Earlier this year, a teenager from the UK was found responsible for last year’s leak that distributed 90 videos from the in-development. Additionally, this week, a video on TikTok surfaced that claimed to be leaked footage from the game that allegedly came from a Rockstar employee’s kid. The TikTok videos (which, as of publishing are still available on service) feature footage of a computer monitor showing off wide shots of the game’s setting.
Moments after posting, the X account hosting the videos was suspended, making the account holder unable to uphold their promise to upload a version of the trailer without the watermark should they reach 10k followers.
