Samsung Galaxy S24 specs: everything you need to know
The Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra have landed, and while the former two are not quite as exciting as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, they still have an assortment of impressive specs.
Those specs include a top-end chipset, though the exact chipset you’ll get with the S24 and S24 Plus will depend on where you are in the world. If you’re in the US you get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, which is an overclocked version of Qualcomm’s fastest smartphone chipset, while buyers in the UK will get an Exynos 2400 for Galaxy, which is Samsung’s own top mobile chipset.
So in either case you can expect a whole lot of power, but if you’re in the UK and want a Snapdragon version you’ll have to shell out for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy everywhere.
In any case, the standard Galaxy S24 is also equipped with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM, while the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus has 12GB, which is a match for the Ultra. That can be paired with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of (UFS 4.0) storage in the case of the standard Samsung Galaxy S24, with 256GB or 512GB if you get the S24 Plus, and with 256GB, 512GB, or a heftier 1TB of storage if you’re buying the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
It’s not just the hardware that’s hefty either, as Samsung seems to have put a similar amount of focus on the software, and specifically AI features. These run right through the latest Galaxy S models, aiding with photo editing, live translating calls, summarizing your notes, and more.
But we’re just scratching the surface here. One of the key upgrades on all three of these phones is the screen brightness, as they all now have a peak brightness of 2,600nits, which is a substantial improvement on the 1,750nits of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. That makes these screens clearer and easier to see in bright, direct sunlight.
In the case of the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24 Plus, you’re also getting slightly bigger screens this year, at 6.2 inches and 6.7 inches respectively, and the Galaxy S24 Plus has moved from the FHD+ resolution of its predecessor to a QHD+ resolution now.
The standard and Plus models also have bigger batteries than their predecessors, at 4,000mAh and 4,900mAh, respectively. That’s up from 3,900mAh on the Galaxy S23 and 4,700mAh on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus.
There are no such upgrades for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which has the same screen size and battery capacity as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. What the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra does have though – beyond the brighter screen and faster chipset outlined above – is a new 50MP periscope camera offering 5x optical zoom.
The rest of the camera hardware on this phone is much the same as last year, but given that the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra tops our list of the best camera phones, that’s no bad thing. For a deeper dive, check out our guide to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra cameras.
Sadly, the standard Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus don’t get this new periscope camera, and in fact their camera hardware appears functionally unchanged from the previous models, although a new 2x optical zoom now features on both phones by way of sensor cropping. They also lack the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra’s titanium frame (which is an upgrade from the aluminum of the S23 Ultra), instead packing an ‘Enhanced Armor Aluminum’ frame that’s reportedly 10% stronger. So the two cheaper phones should be durable at least, but they’re stuck with a less premium material than the Ultra.
