At 16 letters long THEOLDSWITCHEROO is the longest spangram we’ve had in ages; “cardiovascular” last month was 14 characters long, but I can’t think of an example that’s been longer recently. And, in true switchback style, it also completed the unusual feat of starting and ending on the same side of the grid.
All in all this was a trickier-than-usual search, with hard to get non-game words and BACKPEDAL connecting in spiralling fashion.
Yesterday’s NYT Strands answers (Monday, October 5, game #946)
- ALAS
- BUMMER
- SUCKS
- BOOHOO
- UNFORTUNATE
- SORRY
- SPANGRAM: SADTROMBONE
