The answers to today’s Strands, game #651, are…

  • CRAB
  • SHRIMP
  • RIBEYE
  • SIRLOIN
  • LOBSTER
  • SCALLOP
  • SPANGRAM: SURFANDTURF

  • My rating: Hard
  • My score: 1 hint

I had no idea what “Pricy pairing” could mean as I began the game, beyond a hunch that we might be looking for pairs of words and – continuing my literal interpretation – something to do with money.

After getting nowhere fast a hint gave me CRAB, but I struggled to think what paired with that – Sandwich?. Next I got SHRIMP and I was still locked in a land of confusion.

It wasn’t until I found RIBEYE that I realized the pair in question was SURFANDTURF – the epitome of 1970s fancy cuisine and the perfect combination for people who can’t decide what to order.

Yesterday’s NYT Strands answers (Saturday, December 13, game #650)

  • STORMY
  • TUMULTUOUS
  • CHAOTIC
  • UNRULY
  • DISORDERLY
