Nintendo has officially unveiled the first images for The Legend of Zelda Movie – and they offer us a big clue about which game it’ll be based on.
Released today (November 17) on the Nintendo Today app, the three photographs show The Legend of Zelda Movie‘s leads Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason wearing costumes that long-time fans will instantly recognize.

Indeed, two of them are close-ups at the movie’s stars looking at something off-camera, while the third shows the pair looking out onto one of Hyrule’s great – not to mention lush-looking – plains.
There are a couple of things worth noting about the stills. Ainsworth’s Link is decked out in his legendary green tunic and white undershirt, so Nintendo and Sony Pictures’ live-action take on the former’s universally popular videogame series is going all-in on being as authentic as possible.
However, what’s far more interesting is Bragason’s Zelda is wearing a turquoise dress and dark-green leggings ensemble that’s reminiscent of her look from one of The Legend of Zelda franchise’s more recent entries. Its attire not dissimilar to the clothes she wears in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the 2017 action-adventure Wii U and Nintendo Switch title that’s regularly hailed as the game series’ best entry. Is this confirmation that the forthcoming flick will adapt – directly or loosely – Breath of the Wild‘s story?

FIRST FOOTAGE OF THE ZELDA MOVIE BEING FILMED OMG OMG pic.twitter.com/UiqDlTzONpNovember 15, 2025
This isn’t the only imagery from the movie that’s emerged in recent days. Last Saturday (November 15), leaked footage from the film, which is being shot in New Zealand, found its way online and appears to have revealed an addition to its cast that hasn’t been publicly acknowledged by Nintendo.
The secretly-filmed video begins with the camera trained on Bragason’s Zelda, who walks over to a pair of horses. It’s here where she’s greeted by another actor, who seems to resemble Impa, Zelda’s chief aide in Nintendo’s hugely successful game franchise.

As the camera zooms in, we get a much better look at who may be playing Impa (or whoever this individual is). And, while it’s difficult to fully make out the actor in question, they look a lot like Dichen Lachman, aka the Australian star who viewers may recognize as Ms. Casey from sci-fi hit Severance on Apple TV.
The leaked clip raises more questions about The Legend of Zelda movie’s plot. Will this mystery character be part of proceedings in its first act or throughout? Is one of the horses Epona, Link’s trusty steed who might initially be under Zelda’s care in this film? And, perhaps most importantly, are Zelda and her lieutenant traveling in secret to avoid being detected and/or found by Ganandorf, The Legend of Zelda franchise’s Big Bad?
I’m sure we’ll get answers to any or all of the above in due course. For now, here’s that all-important release date information: The Legend of Zelda Movie will arrive in theaters worldwide on May 7, 2027.
