Genius brings its ‘Verified’ video series to Apple Music

Genius’ popular “Verified” video series is coming to Apple Music starting today. The show has artists explain the meaning behind the lyrics of their hit songs, featuring musicians like Billie Eilish and J Balvin.

Going forward, Apple Music will co-produce “Verified.” Episodes will now premiere on Apple’s streaming platform and can be found on the artist’s page. Then, they’ll be available on Genius’ website and YouTube channel after a period of time. There are no plans to make older episodes available on Apple Music.

Genius has produced over 800 episodes of “Verified” since it debuted in 2016, and Genius and Apple Music are kicking off the partnership with two new “Verified” episodes: Alec Benjamin’s “Mind Is A Prison” and Yung Baby Tate’s “CAMP.” Upcoming episodes will feature Caroline Polachek, 24KGoldn, Olivia Rodrigo, and more.

This isn’t the first time the two companies have teamed up. Apple Music became the official music player for Genius.com in 2018, letting those with Apple Music accounts play songs on Genius without leaving the site. The deal also made Genius the lyric provider for “thousands of hit songs” on Apple Music.

Genius has partnerships with other streaming platforms, too, and it currently powers Spotify’s “Behind The Lyrics” feature. Meanwhile, the company also has a contentious relationship with Google. A complaint Genius filed in 2019 alleged that Google knowingly copied its lyrics to use in search results. For now, Apple Music is Genius’ most likely long-term partner given the established website integration that cemented Apple Music as the company’s official music player.

New “Verified” episodes will premiere every weekday on the Genius website, the Genius YouTube channel, and on Apple Music.
