Dragon’s Dogma 2 gets a March release date and tricky new class
A few weeks ago, Capcom announced that it would put on a showcase for Dragon’s Dogma 2. The livestream just wrapped up, showing off roughly 15 minutes of new gameplay, information, a trailer, and a release date: March 22nd. Check out the video here.
The release date wasn’t exactly the newest of news. Hours before the livestream began on November 28th, the game’s Steam page accidentally leaked that you’d be able to dogma your dragons on March 21st. The livestream confirmed that the actual release date is a day later, with Dragon’s Dogma 2 sharing a release date with one of my most anticipated games of 2024, Princess Peach: Showtime! (Interestingly, Steam has not yet updated the page which still shows March 21st.)
The showcase debuted a new class, the trickster. From its name, the trickster sounds like your basic rogue class, but the trickster seems like a necromancer with extra steps. Instead of using dead bodies to fuel an army of minions, the trickster uses a censer — think if you turned your favorite incense holder into a medieval flail — and conjures constructs from the smoke that will trick enemies into fighting each other. That is some inspired class design that really piques my interest into seeing more of what Dragon’s Dogma 2 is about.
The story is another breadcrumb I’m interested in gobbling up. There’s nothing particularly revolutionary about DD2’s story. But from the showcase, it seems like the plot will lean heavily on geopolitical intrigue, which I enjoy.
Overall, Dragon’s Dogma 2 doesn’t quite seem like it’ll be the breakout hit of 2024. But I’m in the mood for a low-stakes, sword and board action game that I can take my time with, and hopefully Dragon’s Dogma 2 will scratch that itch.
