Grab a 65in 4K TV for $500 off!

We’re sure to see plenty of great deals on big 4K TVs this Black Friday, but we doubt many will be better than this Best Buy offer on the Hisense U8H.

First off, this is a really good TV even at full price – we awarded it 4/5 stars in our Hisense U8H review and were full of praise for its high brightness, strong blacks, rich colors and gaming-friendly features. But best of all it’s not full price right now: it’s 37% off, saving you $500 and bringing it down to $899. Don’t miss this one.

The cheapest TV on Amazon – is it any good?

Amazon’s Black Friday TV deals just seem to get cheaper and cheaper every year, so much so that you can literally buy a smart display for under $100 right now. They tend to be the cheaper brands or own-brand displays, but we’re always surprised by how cheap the retailer offers them for over Black Friday.

We haven’t reviewed this one here at TechRadar, but we can give you our honest opinion, based on the fact we review dozens of TVs a year.

So, our initial impressions are that this display is tiny (like literally the size of a computer monitor) but really quite well featured for the money. The biggest pro of this display is that it’s got Amazon Fire TV built right in, so you don’t have to pair it up with a Fire TV Stick or equivalent to get full access to all the best streaming services or compatibility with Echo devices. It’ll basically work right out of the box and get you streaming Amazon Video or Netflix in no time – and it’s small enough to fit on nearly any desk or tabletop.

What we don’t like is the 720p resolution. For a display in 2022 – even one that’s 24-inches – that’s incredibly small. The 32-inch version for $99 features this same 720p resolution too, which will look even worse on a slightly bigger screen size.

For our money, if you can afford it, we’d recommend opting for a slightly bigger display like this one:

This 43-inch Amazon-branded display has the same handy Fire-TV smart features as the cheapo Insignia but has a much, much improved 4K resolution. It also supports HDR 10, HLG, and Dolby Digital Plus for a much better picture quality overall.

Our recommended TV retailers at a glance…

There are an awful lot of Black Friday deals already available this year, with TVs in particular being a hotly contested area of competition among the big names.

While we’ll be rounding up all the highlights right here, I thought I’d just quickly give a review of the recommended retailers so you know what to look out for.

Amazon & Walmart – good for cheap smart TVs

We’d recommend both Amazon and Walmart as great retailers if you’re on more of a budget this Black Friday. They both widely stock displays of smaller sizes for as little as $99 – many of which are own-brand options with in-built streaming features.

These displays aren’t exactly high-end, and as you’d imagine, lack the bells and whistles of most of the $500 plus displays, but they’ll get you watching Netflix or Amazon Video on a budget and be easy to set up.

In particular, look out for Amazon’s ‘Fire TVs’, which are essentially own-brand versions of the usual TCL and Insignia displays you see in the sub $500 price range.

Best Buy & Samsung – good for premium TVs

Best Buy’s vast range of Black Friday TV deals includes some very, very big savings on higher-end displays from top brands like LG and Sony. Generally speaking, you won’t find cheaper prices elsewhere so it’s well worth checking in at this retailer if you have the budget for something like an LG C2 OLED – which is our current favorite TV here at TechRadar.

Samsung itself is fantastic retailer if you’ve got around $500 to $1,000 to spend on something that’s decent but not too pricey. This brand’s excellent range of QLED displays generally sits smack bang in the middle of this budget range and the official store offering the lowest prices all year right now.

Snap up Insignia’s 2022 32-inch smart Fire TV – because it’s 44% off!

Want a sub-$100 Black Friday TV bargain? We got you. This one is a 2022 model which was $179.99 but is now $99.99 (opens in new tab) – a whopping $80 discount, on Amazon.

The 24-inch model has also dropped, to $79.99 (from $89.99, an 11% saving) and we told you about it earlier, but 32-inches of screen real estate for only an extra $20 warrants its own post, we think you’ll agree…

It’s not an Insignia mode we’ve tested, but we should note that 1080p is the most widely used HD TV format now (often known as Full HD), surpassing 720p – and this TV only has 720p resolution, aka standard HD.

For clarity: 4K (Ultra HD) is a newer, even-higher-resolution format than 1080p. But on a smaller-size screen such as this 32-incher, you’d need the eyesight of an eagle to notice the difference all those pixels would make given a 65-inch screen on which to shine.

Our advice? It’s a great little deal for the guest bedroom ahead of the holiday season…

A 4K Vizio for less than $300

Sticking with cheap sets, Vizio’s V-Series models are among those we’d recommend keeping an eye out for this Black Friday, and this deal on a 43-inch Vizio V-Series TV at Walmart for just $268 is a great example.

Though the V series is a budget line, these 4K TVs are incredibly feature-packed, offering Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ high dynamic range support, a full array LED backlight, Bluetooth headphone output for private listening, voice-enabled remote control, and three total HDMI 2.1 ports. Definitely worth a look if you’re on a budget.

Big screens on a budget

Over the past few years, we’ve big screen TVs get cheaper and cheaper and we’re at the point now where we have absolutely fantastic options that don’t break the bank. Here are a few great options we’ve spotted over at Best Buy.

This first option is for a super reasonably priced Insignia display – which just so happens to be on clearance right now at the retailer. What we like about this one is that you don’t just get a decently sized display but one of the best streaming platforms in the form of Fire OS built-in. Bundling this one up with a cheap Amazon smart speaker (such as the Echo Dot for $14.99) is an awesome way to kick-start your smart home setup on a budget.

Our second highlighted Black Friday TV deal at Best Buy is a little pricier, but it’s just as good value if you’re wanting a display with a decent screen size.

This TU690T display has a rock-solid set of features for the money, with a very speedy processor for resolution upscaling. Sure, it will lack the brightness of Samsung’s well-known QLED displays (it’s an LED display), but it’s coming in at a fraction of the price and gets you a whole host of smart TV functions to boot. Definitely worth checking with almost $300 off.
