Hohem is trying something new with its Eyepic handheld stabilized camera to differentiate it from existing offerings from companies like DJI and Insta360. At its core, the camera is functionally similar to devices like the Osmo Pocket 4 and Insta360 Luna Ultra with a rotating preview screen and a small camera module stabilized by a three-axis gimbal. But the Eyepic borrows an idea popularized by recent action cams by letting you detach the magnetic camera module and use it as a tiny standalone camera you can mount or wear.

The Eyepic captures 4K video at up to 60fps in a vertical or horizontal orientation that can be changed by rotating the 2.51-inch touchscreen display on its grip, which also includes a joystick for manually adjusting framing and a lever for changing the zoom level. Details on battery life, built-in storage, tracking capabilities, and pricing haven’t been shared yet.

To capture more dynamic hands-free footage, the Eyepic camera can be used on its own clipped to clothing, worn using an included lanyard, or magnetically attached to compatible surfaces. The tiny action cam lacks a screen of its own but streams a live 1080p preview to the Eyepic’s touchscreen that can be used to preview framing or remotely adjust settings up to 32 feet away. The grip and gimbal aren’t water-friendly, but the action cam module is completely waterproof to a depth of just over 32 feet.
