Markiplier is now GoPro’s biggest shareholder
YouTuber Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach has invested enough in GoPro to become its single largest shareholder, with an 8.5 percent stake in the company, Bloomberg reports. Speaking to Bloomberg, Fischbach said he thought GoPro “seems undervalued” and sees his investment as “part of a larger mission to make filmmaking more accessible,” following the release of his first feature film, Iron Lung, earlier this year.
Fishbach posted a video last week praising GoPro’s new Mission 1 ILS camera and comparing it to the pricier Red Komodo-X, saying he plans to use the Mission 1 ILS in future movies. It includes an affiliate code for the new camera, but we didn’t spot any mention of his involvement in the company in the caption or the video itself.
Fellow YouTuber Marques Brownlee commented on the news of Fischbach’s investment in a post on Threads with a still from the video, saying, “This is not a line I see crossed very often, but to each their own.”
GoPro did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
