Strands is the NYT’s latest word game after the likes of Wordle, Spelling Bee and Connections – and it’s great fun. It can be difficult, though, so read on for my Strands hints.

Despite the fact that I managed to complete this game without any hints I’m still classing it as “tricky”, because it took me longer than normal to complete — and that was with the big help of a couple of rare letters.

The other head start was that after seeing “there” on the board I decided it had to be a part of the spangram and continued connecting letters until I got to THEREIFIXEDIT — a spangram that felt very similar to a magician pulling an endless handkerchief from a top hat.
Today’s search, then, was all about perfectionism and people who have to get things just so in order to feel they have completed a job to their high standards — a character trait I most certainly do not have myself. Instead of “there I fixed it”, my phrase when repairing things is “there that’ll do”. Maybe us shirkers will get a Strands of our own one day.

Strands is the NYT’s not-so-new-any-more word game, following Wordle and Connections. It’s now a fully fledged member of the NYT’s games stable that has been running for a year and which can be played on the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile.
