After a year of using Threat Protection Pro, a NordVPN Plus plan might be the only Black Friday VPN deal I recommend
I never thought I’d become the type of person that would ever just set-it and forget-it when it came to technology, but my recent experience updating our NordVPN review proved me very wrong indeed.
NordVPN Threat Protection Pro is NordVPN’s system that helps protect your device from ads, trackers, malware, and malicious websites or downloads. It can do several other protective tricks – such as warn you of scams and fraud, block adult sites, and indicate the safety of search results – but it’s Threat Protection Pro’s protective abilities that really set it apart.
When we put it through our rigorous testing, Threat Protection Pro outperformed most other VPNs. It blocked 86% of malware links, 91% of phishing links, and 54% of ads – the latter of which was beaten only by Surfshark and Proton.
In my time using it, however, I’ve found little cause for concern about its ad blocking capabilities, and have been pleasantly impressed by the malicious site blocking function – even if, somewhat humorously, it occasionally thought other VPN companies were threats!
It’s been so good that only a couple of days ago I realized I’d had it running on almost every device I have for essentially a year without breaks: that’s a year of protecting my iPad, S24 Ultra, work laptop, and home desktop, all without hitting my device limit or needing to turn it off and on again to troubleshoot issues or fix missed sites/ads.
What’s more, it’s even cheaper now than it was when I picked it up. A NordVPN Plus plan – the cheapest way to access NordVPN’s Threat Protection Pro – is currently only $3.89/month (billed $105.03 upfront) with three months free thrown in too.
I should mention that, annoyingly, mobile devices only get Threat Protection, the product’s base version. It offers a more limited version of the protection you’d expect from Threat Protection Pro, but it’s still effective enough to be handy.
If you’re really eager to have full-scale protection on your phone, Surfshark is the better choice thanks to its full antivirus capacity. That said, it performed worse than Threat Protection Pro on computers, so it’s a bit of a sacrifice either way.
There are, of course, several Black Friday Antivirus deals you could look at instead if you wanted stronger guarantees, which we’d recommend alongside any VPN antivirus product. But if you’re asking me, you won’t find better than NordVPN if you simply want one thrown in. It’s also worth remembering NordVPN Plus includes a bunch of other additional features, such as NordPass, data breach detection, and more, for the discounted price.
