Got a buggy iPhone 17 or iPhone Air? Apple’s new iOS 26 update could solve your woes

The big iOS 26 rollout got underway a couple of weeks ago, and iOS 26.0.1 is already available. While it’s not a huge update, it does feature some important bug fixes for various iPhone 17 and iPhone Air models, so it’s worth installing at your earliest opportunity.
As reported by MacRumors, the iOS 26.0.1 release notes mention fixes for connectivity issues and photo glitching on the new 2025 iPhones, as well as for problems with blank app icons (when applying a custom tint) and the VoiceOver feature.
We covered the intermittent Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues last week, which were causing users of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air to lose active connections when unlocking their handsets. This then affected links to other devices such as CarPlay dashboards.
And we’ve also previously written about the photo glitch, where particular types of LED lighting shining into the cameras on these new models – at a concert, perhaps – would cause white squiggles and black rectangles to show up on the images. Apple acknowledged that problem, but said it was “very rare”.
Early issues
While it’s not ideal to see bugs and glitches appearing on a brand new smartphone, nor is it unexpected: most new handsets now come with at least one or two issues attached, no matter the brand. Google Pixel 10 owners have been reporting wireless charging problems with older chargers, for example.
As frustrating as these bugs are, they do seem to have only affected a minority of the new models, and Apple has at least been quick in getting fixes rolled out. There’s also a new iOS 18.7.1 update for older iPhones that don’t support iOS 26 (that’s anything before the iPhone 11 basically).
It was a similar story last year, with some random restarts and touchscreen problems initially reported by owners of the iPhone 16 handsets around the time that iOS 18 landed. As with this year, software fixes were swiftly issued.
There are likely to be more bug fixes on the way in the weeks ahead, and iOS 26.1 is already in beta testing. However, these software upgrades can’t do anything for your iPhone if you’re seeing an excessive amount of scratching.
