It’s official – Samsung says its long-awaited tri-fold phone will launch later this year
- Samsung says its tri-fold phone is launching this year
- Rumors have pointed to a September 29 launch
- The first official tease appeared in January
It’s been quite the wait for those wanting to get their hands on the Samsung tri-fold phone, considering it was officially teased back in January and rumored for some time before that, but all the signs are that the wait is finally coming to an end.
Speaking to South Korean outlet The Chosun Daily (via SamMobile), Samsung mobile boss TM Roh said that development of the tri-fold is in its “final stages” and that the grand unveiling should be “by the end of this year”.
That fits in with previous rumors that Samsung is going to schedule an event for Monday, September 29, where it’s predicted to be launching an Android XR headset, a pair of smart glasses, and the long-awaited tri-fold foldable.
The Samsung exec also confirmed the company’s commitment to artificial intelligence, saying that 90% of its “business areas” would be utilizing AI by 2030. We can expect to see a lot more in the way of AI features on Samsung devices in the future.
Chipsets, screens, and prices

We’ve seen a lot of leaks and rumors around the Galaxy tri-fold to date, and assuming that the majority of them are accurate, there’s not actually much left for Samsung to reveal: we already know a lot about the design and features of this upcoming foldable.
It looks like we’re set for a Snapdragon 8 Elite as the chipset of choice here, as well as a 10-inch main display, while leaks from Samsung’s One UI 8 software have apparently confirmed this handset will be adopting an inward-folding form factor.
That means there’ll be a main display and an outer display. The Huawei Mate XT tri-fold, meanwhile, uses a different approach: when it folds down and closes shut, part of the main display is used as the cover screen.

Then there’s the price, of course. It’s going to be no surprise when this tri-fold phone comes with a hefty price tag attached, perhaps around $3,000-$3,500 (that’s £2,210-£2,575 or AU$4,535-AU$5,290). However, its international availability may be limited.
